From the beginning of its history Verona has seen the rise of many religious buildings such as monasteries, abbeys, cathedrals and churches. The churches of Verona are the historical evidence of the different cultural epochs represented by its architecture in each building. The Basilica of San Zeno, one of the most beautiful churches of Verona’s territory. It was build in 1398 after many vicissitudes fully represents the Romanesque style. The facade is evidence of the many eras and presents some religious tales. Inside of basilica, among the many works of art, there is also a statue of the master of the city "San Zeno laughing". Every year on May 21th Verona celebrates the day of its patron saint.
Verona Cathedral is the main place of worship in the city presents an architectural complex which was built in the twelfth century on the site of two churches that were here previously, the evidence of which can be seen today by visiting the Cathedral itself. The interior is painted by numerous works of art, among which is the most famous "Assumption of the Virgin" by Titian (1535). The magnificent nave was designed by the great architect of Verona Michele Sanmicheli.
Basilica of St.Anastasia is the largest church in Verona and one of the most beautiful of the city, its construction began in the thirteenth century and ended only in the sixteenth century and is in full Gothic Italian style. Basilica is rich in works of art including a fresco by Pisanello, "St. George and the Princess".
