Verona, a city full of literary inspirations, which saw the birth of the Latin poet Catullo, who welcomed Dante and who inspired Shakespeare, celebrates the “World Poetry Day” with a great event entitled "We are made for Infinity", a tribute to bicentennial of the famous poem called "Infinito" by Giacomo Leopardi.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 24 at the Sala Maffeiana of the Philharmonic Theater in Verona and is promoted by the “World Academy of Poetry”, founded in 2001 in Verona.
The event, led by the Italian director and actor Alfonso De Filippis, will see the extraordinary participation of many well-known international artists in an evocative exhibition of music and poetry.
The heart of the event will be the debate on the value and strength of poetry, as a communication powerful vehicle. Afterwards,
the award ceremony of the “
National Poetry Competition” - focus on the theme of Leopardian “
Infinito” - will take place, announcing the winners. The innovative aspect of this competition is that for the first time
the photographic channel has been opened, allowing not only to write verses, but also to propose them in a graphic and digital key. The new communication method is also available through

The "World Poetry Day" is a recurrence commissioned by UNESCO in 1999, which recognized the poetry's capacity to promote intercultural dialogue, linguistic diversity and peace. To appreciate the poetry, a precious expression form, every year on March 21st, the first day of spring, literary readings, meetings with authors and poetic festivals take place all over the world.
