Verona is mobilizing for the environment and launches the "
European Sustainable Energy Week”, from June 19 to 25. The initiative, launched in 2006, aims to raise the awareness of the institutions and the European citizens about
the importance of renewable energy sources and the reduction of energy consumption. There will be also the prize -
EU Sustainable Energy Awards - which evaluates the most innovative projects that can shape the Europe's energy future.
For a long time, Verona has committed itself to protecting the environmental heritage, showing great attention to eco-sustainability theme. In fact, many initiatives are taken with the goal of creating a greener city and a respectful environmental consciousness.
For example, the cycle track that winds along the Adige River is nearly completed: only the last 50 km are missing. The project, born thanks to Fiab Verona - Friends of the Bicycle, will allow many citizens and tourists to enjoy the beauty of the landscapes of our land.
There are many columns for the free electric charge of cars, motorcycles and electric bikes. The operation was realized thanks to Agsm, the Verona energy company, which promotes the use of alternative means of transport that represents the future of sustainable mobility.
Lastly, the recent construction of the cable car linking the San Pietro Castle to the Santo Stefano Church is an alternative and eco-sustainable way to enhance the peculiarities in the area. The project was funded by the Cariverona Foundation with an amount of about EUR 6 million and built by South Tyrol's Leitner company.
In this special week, from June 19 to 25, there will be all over Europe many events focused on sustainability and energy efficiency, called "Energy Days".
Again this time, Verona is sensitive to this topic. In fact, on Wednesday June 21 at 2:30 pm, the "Thermal Account - Instructions for Use" Conference will be held by the Chamber of Commerce of Verona in collaboration with the Association of Craft Industry and with the patronage of the Veneto Region and Municipality of Verona. The objective is to raise awareness among private individuals and businesses about the main news of the heat bill, which funds around 900 million euros annually in order to refurbish buildings to improve energy performance, reduce consumption and help build a more efficient country. Participation at the event is free of charge after registration on Chamber of Commerce of Verona's website.
