Italy remains the greatest commercial partner for the United States in terms of wine, with a total market share of 32.4%. These data were disclosed during the opening conference Italian wines and the American palate: trends and opportunities in the U.S. market, within VINO 2017, an event which took place in New York. A huge share of the whole Italian wine export market is represented by wines from Verona which is the first province according to exportation volume with 880 million euro in 2015. Furthermore 223 million of those derive from the US. We are talking about a trade flow that reached 1.65 billion dollars in 2016 and grew by 5.9% between January and November over the same period last year.
The Verona economy report annually published by the Chamber of Commerce of Verona shows encouraging data and trends for the entire export sector. Indeed, its total value is higher than 10 billion euro, confirming Verona as the eleventh province at national level (with an average of 2.5%). This reflects, on one hand, a specific aptitude towards foreign markets which characterized all the economic framework of the land and, on the other hand, a high demand coming from international players.
The interest towards products Made in Verona allows its export trade to maintain the leadership at national level in different productive fields. Among the products that had a remarkable success last years we can include machinery, on top of the list, with an amount of 2 billion euro and a growth of + 8.7% and food products, with a value of 1.2 billion euro, representing 12.7% of exports from Verona. Then, we find vegetables and marble.
The list of trading partners didn’t go through major changes over the years: Germany is still on top with an export value of 1.7 billion euro. France ranks second and then there are United Kingdom, the US and Spain. Finally, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Poland and the Netherlands are at the bottom of the list.
